Treats and Sweets: Dough in NYC

Don't you love when things just work out? That is exactly what happened when my friend Kate and I arrived in New York City. 

It was like 6:30 am, freezing cold, and we couldn't drop our bags at our hotel until 8 am. So being the person that I am, I just googled best doughnut shops in Manhattan, found the closest one to us, and headed straight to it! 

Luckily for us, we ended up at Dough. 

As you walk in, there is one large rustic table off-centered below a line of gorgeous lights. Behind the counter on the back wall, there is a giant window and you can see all of the bakers making fresh doughnuts and coffee. It is PERFECT! 

It honestly feels like a fairytale right in the middle of the city. Not only that but the nutella filled doughnut is to die for!! It may actually beat my zebra doughnut in London and nutella bomba in Rome!

After walking home from work I decided I deserved some sweets! I stopped by this cute little shop and the chocolates were divine!

Have you ever eaten something and thought to yourself...'what if this is the best thing that I will ever eat and it is all downhill from here?'. No? Just me? 

Well, recently I was walking around the Spitalfield Markets and I passed this amazing cupcake stand! As soon as I saw the gold dusted icing, I knew I had to buy the 'Posh Peanut Buttercup Cake'. 

It was AMAZING! More than amazing...I can't even explain how rich and delicious it was. The peanut butter icing was to die for and it was coated in chocolate! I can't wait to go back to the Flavourtown stand before I leave and try another flavour (I have my eye on the 'Nutella vs. Oreo' cupcake next)!

The Magnolia Bakery of London.

I love sweets. That bit is probably obvious if you know me or if you have ever read this blog before. However, you may not know that cupcakes are my second favourite sweet (cookies are #1)! One of the main things missing from my Rome experience  was exactly that...cupcakes! 

On family vacations, we always try to find a good place to get cupcakes. I have been to Magnolia Bakery in New York, Sprinkles in California, DC cupcakes in Washington D.C. and more! So, after hearing my coworkers rave about how delicious The Hummingbird Bakery was..I HAD to go! 

I got my go-to vanilla cupcake and it was spectacular! Just the right amount of icing and it was amazing with milk! Sophia got a Black Bottom one and there was something that tasted like cookie dough in the middle (I was a bit jealous of her!). 

Next time I am going to get what Tiff got....RED VELVET!

p.s.  I might be addicted to red velvet cake :p

Treats and Sweets (cider edition)!

I have found my drink! It is strawberry and lime cider and it's the best! It is perfectly sweet and hardly tastes of alcohol :)

There are a couple of brands that make it but this one is from Sweden. Hopefully they sell it in the US as well as here!

After my interview at my internship site, I took the tube to Covent Garden in search of a cupcake place Annie and I went to on our trip in 2011! 

Luckily, it was right where I remembered! And the cupcakes were just as lovely! 

I got two mini ones, one red velvet (my new obsession) and one chocolate on chocolate! It was the perfect treat for a perfect day! 

Afterwards, I just walked around the shops and looked at all kinds of cute knick-knacks and clothes! I can't wait to see Jack in all of the clothes I am going to buy him :) I can picture him in British clothes already and believe me it is cute!!

I am a horrible blogger...I forget the name of this place but know it was on King's Road in Chelsea! I promise I will go back and find out though. Hahahaha...as if I wasn't already going to go back and get another one of these amazing pastries! 

Honestly, they all looked amazing so choosing only one was difficult!

 I eventually decided on the cinnamon chocolate cake...not my favourite though. It was too sweet, if that is even possible. Next time I am going to try one of the fruit cakes!

Today was the first day I got to see my friend Brittany from home! After a few meetings at our school, we decided to venture out and explore a bit of Chelsea (detailed post to follow)! There were tons of shops and little bakeries along King's Road so we decided to get a macaron at Paul ! They were huge and delicious! I got pistachio (my favourite) and Brittany got raspberry. We sat on a bench near a primary school and relaxed while people watching!

As most of you know during my semester abroad last year I ate many, many spectacular sweets. I was known amongst my friends from Rome for finding the best pastries and I am very proud of that!

These were some of my first pastries in Rome and they were so nutella-y (that isn't a word but I hope you know what I mean haha)

While my friends went to the Blue Grotto, I just relaxed and walked around beautiful Capri! I wandered into a little grocery store and saw that they had sandwiches for sale at the counter. I ordered a tomato, basil, and mozzarella sandwich because I wanted something quick. It was the freshest, most delicious sandwich of my life! Then I went to a bakery a couple streets away and got two sweets to eat! I sat on a bench looking out into the sea and just enjoyed the moment. 

This moment was similar to this one I posted about during my first month in Italy! It also reminds me of this clip from "Paris, Je T'aime" (skip to the end)! It was similar because I was just sitting there taking in the beauty and life around me. I didn't have to have someone with me or have to talk, I just was a part of Italy.

More pastries from Paris!! Although I thought Laduree's macarons were better, I think Pierre Herme has the best pastries!! Not only are they beautiful but they are absolutely delicious! If you are in Paris, it is a must-eat!!

This was my second! It was my favourite dessert in Paris! It was creme brulee with strawberries! They were so fresh…it was perfect!

Laduree aka Heaven on Earth! As you walk down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées you will see all of the white and cream buildings with black wrought-iron details that remind you that you are in Paris. When you see the cutest, little green and gold store-front among them, you know you have arrived at Laduree! Once you have entered, a counter of sweets will overwhelm you! They have everything from bread to pastries to macarons…every sweet you could ever want is there!
